Joel M. Guy, age 61, and Lisa M. Guy, age 55, passed away suddenly in Knoxville on November 26, 2016. Joel, an Engineering Designer, and Lisa, a Full Time Mom then an Accounts Payable Administrator, were married for 31 years and true soulmates. They both had a great sense of humor, were loving and kind-hearted, and the most compassionate people. They were the loves of each other's lives. They enjoyed anything that involved being together which included being in nature and on the water. They loved their kids, and adored their grandchildren.
Joel was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo White and brother Jeff Teague and Lisa by her father, Alvin D. Madere. They are both survived and will be forever missed by daughters, Chandise Fink, Michelle Dennison, and Angela Guy; grandchildren, Preston Dennison, Baylor Dennison, Behn Dennison, Joshua Fink, Andrew Fink, and Ashley Fink; brother, Gary McMurray; sisters, Robin White, and Rene Charles; Lisa's mother, Joyce Madere; brother, Alvin Madere, Jr. and sister, Paula Madere Kinler.
The family will receive friends at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel on Saturday, December 17th from 12-2 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2 pm with Pastor Rocky Ramsey officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in their memory to Young-Williams Animal Shelter. Lisa was an animal lover, and both loved their dog, Jake, as their child. Young-Williams took great care of Jake until a family member could pick him up. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Guy family for the official funeral and memorial service, and invites you to view and sign their guestbook below.
Hope you find rest.
May their memories be a blessing. My heart & prayers go out to their daughters, grand children & other family members. They sounded like an incredible, wonderful & fun-loving couple. May justice be served upon the monster who took their lives.
I'm so sorry for the tragic loss of this family. Sending prayers and sympathy for the surviving family and friends. I'm so glad their beloved dog was spared his life and may Joel and Lisa rest in eternal peace with our beloved Lord and savior. Peace be with you.

I just wanted to send my condolences to this entire family. Though I do not know any of you, I wanted to express my deepest condolences and send many prayers your way. I can’t imagine what you are all going through but just know our thoughts and many prayers are with you.
I am disturbed and sickened by the loss of this couple in such a brutal way. My hope for the family, friends and loved ones is for peace and also for justice. I’m so very sorry for all involved. May Lisa and Joel rest in eternal peace.
Though I did not know Joel or Lisa, my heart goes out to their loved ones whom I have kept in my prayers for some time now. I pray that the Lord will give all y'all an extra measure of His grace, peace and strength during this time of sorrow. May His promises and the love of family and friends sustain you all in the coming days. With deepest sympathy,
am unable to be at services today. My prayers are being sent to you.
I only met Lisa this year, but I realized right away that she was special. My heart goes out to you because I know the loss is great. Hold tight to your special memories, and I pray that God will wrap his arms around you and give you peace and comfort.
What a wonderful account of the lives of two special people. Your memory, and those memories you made with your loving family will endure for many lifetimes. Our friend, Angela, has been such a blessing to our work family; and we know much of what made her such a kind, loving person was lead by example from her parents. We embrace her, and all of the family with a sincere heart. May God bless each of you in this time, and always. Clair, Debbie, Benita, Marc and Steve
I only know the pain you must be going through. My prayers are with you all at this time. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I will always hold a special place in my heart for my dearest friend Lisa and Joel. I will always remember all the times we shared together growing up. Although we didn't keep in touch often over the years you were always in my thoughts especially during the holidays. It is with deep sadness to say that My heart and soul was with you on the day you departed this earth and I pray that you are at peace in the arms of your husband and your dad. May God bless all those you have left behind. My heart goes out to all families involved.
My heart breaks for this family. God bless all who loved this couple. May good memories and the love of friends and family comfort their loved ones.
The world has certainly lost a true character and one of the kindest and most compassionate people on earth. No couple had more love for each other than they did. I was blessed to have them for friends over a long period of time and only regret that it has been a while since our last contact. I hope to one day meet Joel again with all of his crazyness, never a dull moment - I pray that I wind up where ever Lisa is because that is where special people go. May the Lord have mercy on them and may they rest in peace together. My sympathy goes out to the family and friends, I share your grief, sorrow and pain.

The two of you will forever have a place in my heart.
Lisa told me once that sadness is an emotion that we are in control of how long it will last.Today I choose to let go of my sadness and remember only our friendship, her beauty, her grace and her laughter.
My prayers continue for their family that they both loved so much.
Rest in peace together my dear friends!
Joel and Lisa were colleagues of mine at Alstom Power. Each had a great work ethic and a wonderful sense of humor. Lisa and I worked in the same department and she was always driven to do the best job possible. She was a lot of fun to work with. Joel and I also enjoyed many discussions about the old days in engineering when design and layouts were accomplished manually. Joel and Lisa were real troopers and a great American couple. I have placed prayers for them with my church UMC Cokesbury in Knoxville. Judgment and reward will be granted for them by the Lord in Heaven as there can be no meaningful justice for them here on Earth. Both were loved and will be greatly missed. My condolences to their families - rest assured that God is taking care of them.
Lisa was one of my classmates in school....I was so sad to hear this...she was definitely a sweet and loving friend.....our thoughts and prayers to all your families♡♡♡ May God give you the strength to get through this difficult time

So sorry to hear the news about Joel and Lisa passing. I have very fond memories of Lisa. We attended school together and after graduation, we enjoyed a beach senior trip. Lots of fine memories. Lisa and Joel were great together, so caring. My deepest sympathy goes out to the families and I pray for better days to come your way. May God Bless all of you. Brenda
Lisa and I was friends in High School and I will never forget her laughing shocked response to find out I was dating then married her brother. We had laughs over that one. We both had a common love for animals. Animal lovers at heart. Joel Guy always had us laughing. He was either doing something or saying something that keep you going. Oh and his stories! I love and miss both of them. They will be forever in my heart.
I am truly sorry for your loss. We will be praying for you and your family.
