Wiley Earl Cook “Sonny”, age 67, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska on June 7, 1955, and graduated from Young High School in 1973. Sonny went on to serve his country for 31 years by joining the United States Army. He received numerous honors during his service and earned the title of “First Sergeant” in the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment. Sonny enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, and UT football. He was proud to be a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Sonny is preceded in death by father, Staff Sergeant Paul Anderson Cook.
He is survived by wife, Kathy Diane Cook; sons Brian (Jenny) Cook & Tim (Heather) Cook; four grandchildren; mother, Thelma Louise (stepfather Bob) Young; sister, Deborah Thompson; brother-in-law, Larry Kelley; special family friend, Donnie Wilson; several nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Trinity Baptist Church (708 S. Old Sevierville Pike Seymour, TN 37865). A service will follow immediately after with Pastor Buster Gibson officiating. Family and friends will gather at Berry Highland South Cemetery (9010 W. Simpson Rd. Knoxville, TN 37920) on Thursday, November 17, 2022, for a 3:00pm graveside service.
