Thomas J. Cunningham passed away peacefully on the morning of March 25, 2024, at Autumn Care Assisted Living facility in Karns, TN.
He was born on October 13, 1932, the son of Ruth Mae and Thomas L. Cunningham. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, was a graduate of the Univ. of KY, and retired from Inland, div. of GM in Dayton, OH after 40 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his son, Thomas A. Cunningham, his former wife, Mary E. Hodge Cunningham, brother Kenneth Cunningham and infant brother Ray.
Tom was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, Grandpa and “Gramps” (to his 4 great grandchildren) and he will be missed beyond measure. He is survived by his daughters, Lynn Clinton-Schoenly (Rick) of Fayetteville, PA, Tina Gross of Memphis, TN and daughter-in-law, Amy B. Cunningham of Georgetown, OH; grandchildren: Jennifer Gross, Sarah Cowgur (Matt), Erin Thomas and Joseph Gross, all of Memphis, TN; Bridget Cunningham (Andrew Zistler), Columbus, OH and Kelly Cunningham, Brooklyn, NY; sister, Vivian Dagley (Ferris), Powell, TN and brother Eddie (Judy), Jacksboro, TN and sister-in-law, Kathy Cunningham, Knoxville, TN
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Gentry Griffey Funeral Home, Knoxville, with Pastor Rick Schoenly officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at a later date at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wallace Memorial Baptist Church or Smoky Mountain Hospice.
