Peggy Morris Obituary

Peggy Brown Morris departed for heaven on April 1, 2021, at 74 years old.  Peggy grew up in Springfield, TN, reared her children in Clinton, TN, and then moved to Knoxville, TN, where she spent the rest of her life.  Peggy graduated from Carson-Newman with a degree in Home Economics and her first career was being a mom to her children.  As her children grew up, she went back to Carson-Newman and graduated with her Master’s in Education.  She was proud to teach elementary school and most of her career was spent teaching 4th and 5th grades at East LaFollette Elementary and LaFollette Elementary.  She had a passion for teaching reading and English and her students and coworkers alike speak highly of her.  She retired from teaching in 2017.

Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents James Porter Jr. and Iva Belle Brown, and her brothers Jerry and John Brown.  Her surviving family includes her husband Steve Morris; her daughters and sons-in-laws: Belle and Kevin Six, Stephanie and Robert Cummins, and Rebecca and Andy Clem; Steve’s daughter and son-in-law: Christy and David Ledford; her brothers and sisters-in-law: James Arthur Brown and Sue Brown, Jerry and Linda Brown; and her sister and brother-in-law Nancye and Gisbert Jaekel. She was blessed with many grandchildren: Chris (Andy) and wife Bree Cummins, Chase (Alex) Cummins, Taylor Six, Porter Clem, and Amber and husband Kevin Barnes.  She was also loved by Max the Dog.

The family will have private services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club literacy initiatives or Together We Rise.
