Marilyn J. Ohligschlager, 90, formerly of Streator, passed away May 9, 2021 in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she had resided since 2002. At her request there will be no services.
She was born April 23, 1931 to Leo E. and Mary (Callahan) Mueller in Streator, IL. She attended Streator Elementary Schools and graduated from Streator High School in 1949. She married Wayne L. Ohligschlager on July 13, 1950 in Clay County, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Marilyn is survived by children, Charles (Linda) Ohligschlager of Streator, Janet (Gene) McCullough of Knoxville, TN, Sheila Voigt of Knoxville, TN, and June Spooner of Knoxville, TN; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Leo Mueller; sister, Adrienne Flynn; son-in law, Richard Voigt; grandson, Ricky Voigt and great-grandson, John Richard Herr IV.
Marilyn was devoted to her family, friends, and loved ones, whose photos filled her home, never failing to remember to send birthday wishes and kind words on special occasions. She dedicated care to the lucky animals that crossed her path, be they stray cats, wild birds or companions she adopted. To those who knew her well, seeing her favorite red Cardinal will bring her memory to mind. For many years she was a committed volunteer in her community, with the Red Cross, St. Mary’s Hospital, teaching young swimmers at the YMCA, and was an active Girl Scout Leader in her younger years. Despite living in “Braves” territory for the past 19 years, she remained a loyal and avid Chicago Cubs fan.
She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and God’s creatures she tended to daily. Donations may be directed to “For the Love of Pets” 1844 East 20th Road, Streator, Illinois 61364 or Young-Williams Animal Center, 3201 Division Street, Knoxville, TN 37919.
Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Ohligschlager family and invites you to view and sign the online registry.
