Joyce Mehaffey Thomas, age 89, passed away on July 14, 2021 at her home. She will be greatly missed. Joyce loved and attended Cokesbury contemporary worship for the past 18 years. She was born in Knoxville on August 16, 1931 to Carris and Effie Mehaffey. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Walter Thomas, daughter Karen Brown, grandson Bradley Thomas, sister Margaret Bell, and infant brother C.L. Mehaffey. Joyce was a Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Clive Cussler fan and loved to cross-stitch, but she will be remembered most as a loving mother to her children Kenny (Kay) Thomas, Kathy (Steve) Woods, Mike Thomas, and Steve (Annette) Thomas, Mamaw to her grandchildren Ken Thomas, Kelley (Clint) Cooper, Megan (Robert) Ingram, and Melissa Thomas (Chase Elwood), and Great Mamaw to seven great grandchildren Kassidy, Kaydi, Colton, Ciance, Bennett, Hudson, and Avery. She also will be missed by her precious friends Tonya and Amanda, Carla and Destiny, and Ron and Rita. Celebration of Life Services will be held at Cokesbury Center at 9919 Kingston Pike at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm prior to the service. Pastor Brent Ronald will officiate.
