Jean Anne Jerney Moore
(January 15, 1943 - August 24, 2023)
Jean Anne Moore, 80, of Fountain City, made her final journey home to the Lord
on August 24, 2023. She spoke her last words, “I’m ready to go home,”and
gestured a “thumbs up” to her husband of 58 years. She passed away peacefully in
her home, surrounded by family.
Jean was born on January 15, 1943 in Johnstown, PA. She graduated from
Richland High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, the love of her
life, D.J. Moore. In 1959, at the age of 16, Jean wrote a heartfelt message to D.J.,
spanning two full pages in his high school annual. She closed by writing, “May
the Lord bless you and keep you and may He always keep us in love. Always Your
Love, Jean.” And He did. They married and later built a beautiful life together
with their two children in East Tennessee. Jean was a Registered Nurse. She
graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in 1963 and later earned her BSN from
Maryville College. She was a volunteer for Lost Sheep Ministry and long time
member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. She taught 5th grade Sunday
school and was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class. She is a
beloved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Jean enjoyed cross country road trips to California-especially the infamous 2013
roadtrip with their granddaughters, traveling abroad to Germany, and vacations
in Hawaii and Marco Island. One of her favorite places to visit was Fountain City
Library. She was a lover of chocolate, birds, books, and daisies. Jean took great
pride in her Slovenian heritage. She also enjoyed photographing her family and
curating priceless photo albums. Jean was a beautiful person, inside and out, and
will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Jean Moore is survived by her husband of 58 years, D.J. Moore; son, David
Moore and wife, Carolyn; daughter, Jennifer Moore Lovett and husband, Adam;
granddaughter, Whitney Moore and husband, Jack; granddaughter, Amber
Lovett and partner, Erica Allen; and great granddaughter, Violet Sunset Moore.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Julia Jerney; father, John Jerney; sister,
Margaret “Peggy” Kellner; and grandson, Joshua Moore #77.
A private memorial was held for close friends and family with Rev. Don
Handshew officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fountain City
