It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Darlene Woods (Perry), who left us on August 6th, 2023, shortly before her 85th birthday. Born on August 15, 1938, Darlene lived a life full of love, kindness, and generosity. Her infectiously vibrant personality and unwavering love for others led to her often-described persona: "She never met a stranger she didn't love."
Darlene was a woman of many talents. Notably, she was a gifted seamstress and owned her own alterations shop “Hogs & Frogs” for many years. Her exceptional skills and dedication to her craft was a testament to her work ethic and is remembered as one of her most significant accomplishments. Beyond this, she had a great love for frogs, her Yellow Jeep, Dr. Pepper and the University of Tennessee, a testament to her undeniable spirit and zest for life.
She was the beloved mother of six children, five of whom she is survived by: Jack Woods, Donald Woods, Chandra Edlin, Paul Woods, and Jeana (Jeni) Flack. Her son, Ronnie Woods, preceded her in death, as did her dear father, Jack Perry and her mother Helen Perry. Darlene was also a grandmother to 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Darlene's memory will live on in her family, the laughter they shared, the lessons she taught, and the love that she gave unconditionally.
Darlene's legacy of kindness and generosity will forever be remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She touched many lives and has left a permanent mark on those she met throughout her journey.
We invite all who knew and loved Darlene to join us in a Celebration of Life, scheduled for Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Fountain City United Methodist Church. The service will begin at 2:00pm. We gather not to mourn her passing, but to commemorate her life and the joy, love, and kindness she brought to our world.
