Charles "Chuck" Herbert Young

Charles Herbert Young “Chuck” age 96, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2022. Chuck was born in Rockland, Maine on March 23, 1926. He served in the Air Force during WWII stationed on Johnston Island in the Pacific as a Radio Operator. While in the military, Chuck met his bride to be, Maribel Hardy in Saint Louis, Missouri. They had their 75th wedding anniversary in June this year. Chuck spent his career as a Shoe Company Representative, traveling 13 states at one point, selling to retail shoe and department stores. He was also owner of Allen’s Shoe Store in Knoxville. Chuck was a long-time member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed music, flower gardening, golf and dining out with family and friends. Anyone that knew Chuck, knows how generous and kind he was.

Preceded in death by parents, Olga Sjostedt and Maynard Young; and sisters, Eleanor Young and Rosalie Hathorne, all of Maine.

Survived by wife, Mary (Knoxville); daughter, Linda Parker (Larry) of Smyrna, TN; son, Steve Young (Anne) of Knoxville; grandchildren, Rosemary Young, David Parker (Becky), Daniel Parker (Amy), Emily Hart (Chris), and Matthew Parker (Erin) – all of Murfressboro, TN; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Maine.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel, 5301 Fountain Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37918 with a service to follow at 1:30 PM, officiated by Pastor Kent Williams. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Young family.
