Steve Griffey of Corryton, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Ft. Sanders Medical Center. Steve was retired from the
United States Postal Service, where he was Postmaster of many
offices, and was a Master Mason at the Bright Hope Lodge. He was a member of Trinity Church of God. Preceded in death by wife, Patsy Griffey; Parents, Gene and Betty Bates; and Brother, Terry Griffey. He is survived by wife of 37 years, Denver Griffey; Son, Brad (Laura) Griffey; Daughter, Deidra McDade; Grandchildren, Weston and Kailyn Griffey, Avery, Emme and Wiley McDade of Georgia; Sisters, Donna Holder (Debbie), Cheryl Wilson (Rick); Brothers, Johnny (Marilyn) Griffey, and Richard (Lucy) Griffey; devoted family man and Uncle, Jerry Griffey; several nieces and nephews. Steve was very proud of his Grandson Weston for earning a Scholarship to play baseball in college, and for their many conversations about their love for President Trump. He was also very proud of his beautiful granddaughter, Kailyn for being Valedictorian of her graduating class. We would like to thank his best friend, Jay Nelson for always checking on Steve, and Steve's special friend, Chris Graves for considering Steve to be his grandfather. We would also like to thank Ft. Sanders Hospital for the wonderful care that was given to Steve, and a special thanks to his nurse, Robert. A visitation was held on Saturday, August 1st at Gentry Griffey. I have fond memories of Uncle Steve from when I was a child, I was blessed to have him as an uncle! He will be missed by our entire family! While our hearts are heavy with sorrow right now we know those memories will eventually bring us comfort. For he is at peace!

I worked with Steve at the North Knoxville post office in the early 80's. Steve was a great guy. I also stored my corvette in his garage. It was very sad news to learn of his passing. Rest in peace my friend.
