Samuel H. Dawson (Sign Guestbook)

Samuel H. Dawson, age 34 of Knoxville, TN., went to the sweet bye and bye suddenly on Tuesday afternoon October 31, 2017. He is finally free. Sam, as all who knew him, was a beautiful person. He was a Land Surveyor by trade. All who worked with him could see he was one of the best field guys anyone could ask for. He was one of those people you could not stay angry with for long. His heart of gold would melt yours….He never knew a stranger. He was generous almost to a fault. He was strong and fun loving. He seemed to choose to live on the edge much of the time. Speed via crotch rockets and/or dirt bikes was his passion. He had two broken collar bones as his medals of honor. Even though the circumstances of his passing are tragic, he deserves to be celebrated for who he was and always will be.

Sam is preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack E. Somerfield, grandmother, Ruth W. Dawson and his aunt, Doris D. Seay. He is survived by and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Hailey Jade Dawson, his father, Howard T Dawson and wife Gina, his mom, Carrie Somerfield Murray and husband David, his brothers, Matthew J. Dawson and his wife Nancy and children Tessa and Grant and Mitchell B. Dawson….and of course ALL others who knew and loved him.

There will be no service. Sam’s family and friends will celebrate his life privately. We covet your prayers. Donations in his honor, if so lead, are at your discretion. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Dawson family and invites you to view and sign their online guestbook below.

I wish I had. I know you though and my heart and prayers go out to you. I know when I was suffering my losses and the pain got too great to handle I would fall in my knees and cry out to God to please help me…and instantly I would feel His grace come over me and I was able to get through another day. Well, Sam was the only dad I ever had. I can’t live with the fact I lost him. I wish I died, not him..he was a good man and didn’t deserve it. I feel empty inside with out him, he was family..and I’m sorry if I ever did anything wrong. I can’t believe he really passed. I’m sorry Hailey and Carrie. This loss really has messed my life up and he will be very missed. But why him..why now..just why. He will always be in my heart, always, just because he has passed doesn’t mean he’s still not with us. He will always be with us..I’ve cried and cried. I remember all the fun we had…at the lake, the fair, hiking, riding bikes, watching movies, singing, and dancing. I’m gonna miss all these things. I love you Daddy Sam. I know I’m not his real daughter but I know he counted me as a real daughter.

Oh Sam, I don’t really know what to say that I haven’t said out loud to you. You were always so full of life and just a funny brother. From throwing a basketball around with Joey to throwing knives with Chris at an old tree stump, to just talking about anything and everything with me. When ever I’d go to pops and you were there I knew you and mom was causing havoc on pop ( all in a good way) .
You meant so much to every single person that you came across and nothing will ever be the same with you gone. It’s like the world stopped for us. You were running from the demons but man now your free. Free from the demons and free to fly high. I love you Sam!
    Love your baby sis

  35. Carrie Murray says:

Thank you so very much for sending us your thoughts, memories and prayers. It has almost been a month now and the reality of all of this has sunk in with sighs, tears and the resolution to carry on. Underneath the addictive behavior was a person who taught us all the value of non-judgement, tenderness, caring, the need to have fun and the willingness to help whenever possible. We all coined him the Peter Pan of our family. He really did not want to have to grow up… he went up…either by choice or by chance….we may never know. May his memory always give you a smile and encourage you to give a little more, push the limits of who you think you are and to have fun doing it. He was not a religious person…but he knew what Love was and that will be his starting point in the age ahead when we all meet again.

    His Momma…Carrie Somerfield Dawson Murray
