Jack Eugene Hays (Sign Guestbook)

Jack Eugene Hays age 88, of Knoxville, TN passed away on July 28, 2019.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kobert Thomas and Dovie Rhodes Hays; wife, Glenda Rogers Hays; brother, Bill; sister, Maxine Evans.

He is survived by his children, Dean, Sandy, Brad and wife Shari; brother, Tommy Hays; and grandchildren, Kory, Rachel, Jennifer, and Austin.

Jack served in the Marines in the Korean War and worked at AT&T for over 40 years, 12 of those years he was the Union President for CWA Local 3805.

There will be a time of remembrance during part of the regular worship service at 11:00am on Sunday, August 4th at Bookwalter United Methodist Church (4218 Central Avenue Pike, Knoxville, TN 37912). The family will not be present. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bookwalter United Methodist.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 11:30am on Friday, August 9, 2019 at East Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery on John Sevier. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Hays family and invites you to view and sign the online registry below.

    We enjoyed talking and visiting with Jack at the campground in Pigeon Forge. He was always a joy to be around. We were there in July and was asking everyone about him. He and Glenda ate with us often. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

    I knew Jack when I worked in Knoxville in the 1960’s. His office was just down the hall from my father’s (he worked for the AFL-CIO) in the Flatiron Building. Jack was always so much fun and a great friend. Prayers for the family.

    Jack was the President of Communication Works of America Local 3805 (10805) for many, many, many years and touched the lives of hundreds of people.
    He was always there when you needed him and will be greatly missed.
    He continued his work helping people as President Emeritus of the CWA Retirees’ Chapter always keeping in touch with those in need.

    This man Jack Hays will not be forgotten. We met him at Hardees, and told us of his wife dying and that he missed her so.
    We always looked forward to seeing him on Saturdays at Hardees. He told us we made his day each week. We are just friends from Hardees letting someone know we will miss him so, but, now not hurting and with his precious wife. Rest in peace Jack! Semper FI

    Jack (and Glenda) will always hold a special place in my heart. Our parents we friends with them when we were children. As an adult, when my mother was looking for a church, Jack and Glenda welcomed here at Bookwalter and re-friended her. Little did we know then what a short time she had, but her renewed friendship with Jack and Glenda was a real blessing to her. God’s peace to Dean, Sandy, and Brad.     My Mother, Maxine, Jack’s sister, was very close to her Hays family.Beiing that our father was in the Air Force we had to drive a distance to visit the Hays’ family she missed so much, one week out of every summer. Jack was so wonderful to us its hard to describe the feeling we had for him.I Know he’s with his Lord and loved ones, and if I write an autobiography our Jack will have his own chapter that
    would be bard to write with my memories of him flowing swiftly.

    I will always remember Jack as a wonderful “Telephone Company” employee and a great CWA president, as well as an active member of the Knoxville Life Member Club Pioneers. I’ll never forget him leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance before each KLMC meeting with that bold strong voice.
