Harry “Rick” Warren (Sign Guestbook)

Rick Warren, 65, of Knoxville passed peacefully in his sleep on May 31 after a brief struggle with brain cancer.  He was raised in LaFollette, TN by his adoptive parents Harry Lee and Bonnie Leigh Bartley Warren who preceded him in death.  Rick was a member of LaFollette United Methodist Church and a member of the LaFollette High Class of ’70.  He graduated from UT in May and began his career with Knoxville City Schools in Sept. 1974. Rick taught in the City/County systems for 37 years, primarily at Bearden Middle School.  Mr. Warren was loved and respected by his peers, parents, and the hundreds of students he taught sixth grade math.

Rick is survived by cousins Rev. Harry Warren of Cleveland, GA and Julia Williford Sosnowsky of Detroit, MI.  Also left to grieve his passing and cherish his memory is his chosen family to include James (Jimmy) Boshears, Joe Evans, Sandy Guion, Carolyn Gaylor, Steve Roberts, Shayna Wickstrom and many other friends whom he held dear.

A memorial service is scheduled for June 17 at 3:00 PM.  Beloved friends and colleagues are invited to gather at the Cove Lake State Park Recreation Building in Caryville, TN to commemorate Rick’s life and share memories of a dedicated educator and a truly fine man.  Memorial donations to Rick’s favored charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, in lieu of flowers would be appreciated. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel invites you to sign the online registry below.
