Guy Virgil Tucker Jr. (Sign Guestbook)

Guy Virgil Tucker, Jr., born on March 31, 1923 in Bells, TN, peacefully died on Thursday, July 26, 2018 due to complications of an ailing heart that failed him but that never failed anyone he knew.

At a tender age, Guy joined the U.S. Army and went to WWII where he campaigned through Europe and set up communications at Normandy days after it was secured. He returned from the war to find the love of his life, Mary Frances Tucker, nee Smith, to whom he was married for more than 66 years. Together Guy and Mary Frances devotedly raised their four children, Linda Tucker Williford, Sandra Tucker Martin, Anne Tucker, and Guy Virgil Tucker III.

Guy retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after 35 years of service at the K-25 Plant as Systems and Tax Manager. He then worked alongside his wife putting his accounting skills to work for their daughter Sandy at her company Corporate Interiors in downtown Knoxville where he was adored. Guy was an active member of Fountain City United Methodist Church where he served on several boards and committees, helped raise a generation of children as the 3-year old Sunday School teacher, and lovingly supported the church activities of his beloved Mary Frances. Guy was also a member of the Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM for more than 50 years.

Awaiting Guy in heaven are his parents, Guy Sr. and Grace Tucker, his sisters, Dorothy Chesney and Kathleen Mims, and dear niece, Carole Grant. In addition to his wife and children, Guy is mourned by his children’s companions Billy Williford, David Martin, Lou Valli, and Abby Page Tucker; his five grandchildren Erin Peterson, Casey Lester, Katie Williford, Grace Tucker, and Walter Tucker; his grandsons-in-law Brendan Peterson and Luis Lester; niece, Jan Patterson; and his nephew John Chesney.

For those wanting to help celebrate the life of this wonderful man, the family will be receiving friends at Fountain City United Methodist Church on Monday, July 30th from 5:00-7:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to one or more of the following: Fountain City United Methodist Church, Emerald Youth Foundation, Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center (91 N. Lakeshore Drive, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745), and Volunteer Ministry. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Tucker family and invites you to view and sign the online registry below.
