David B. Lloyd (Sign Guestbook)

David Barber Lloyd, age 85 of Knoxville, died peacefully with family at his side on Aug 7, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer.  Dave was born on Feb 26, 1932 to Irene B. Lloyd and Grover C. Lloyd in Rochester, NY.  He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester in NY and his 40 year career as an engineer included work at Los Alamos, New Mexico and later at the Oak Ridge National Lab.  He married his college sweetheart Susan A. Lloyd on Aug 7, 1954.  Susan predeceased Dave by exactly eight weeks.  The day of Dave’s death would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary.  Dave was a long time member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church where he served many years as Greeter, Deacon, Elder, and Stephen Minister.  For five years, he made numerous trips with the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance team to restore homes and lives along the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina.  Dave was a master woodworker and he crafted countless works of exquisite oak and cherry furniture among many other beautiful pieces.  He excelled in creating Shaker style furniture and woodcraft and he taught these skills to others with passion.   Beginning in 1996, Dave gave generously of his time and talent by volunteering with the electrical crew at the Knoxville Habitat for Humanity.  David is survived by son Peter and wife Ellen, grandchildren Matthew and Sarah, and by son Scot and wife Dawn, grandchildren David and Andrew and wife Sarah.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt and most sincere gratitude to the many loving friends and church family of Fountain City Presbyterian Church who have through the years become a wonderful extension of Dave and Susie’s family.  In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made directly to Fountain City Presbyterian Church (attn: Dave & Susie Lloyd Habitat House Memorial Fund).  These donations will be used to sponsor a Habitat House in honor of these two wonderful, loving, generous soulmates.  Family and friends will gather at Fountain City Presbyterian Church on Friday Aug 11 beginning at 6:00pm followed by a memorial service at 7:30pm.  A private graveside service for the family will take place at a later time.  “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Lloyd family and invites you to view and sign their online guestbook below.

Peter & Ellen, Scott & Dawn and families,
We are saddened to learn that your father, grandfather has passed away so soon after the loss of his beloved Susie; now those two beautiful souls are again united. Our prayers are with you.

  2. Randy Thoms says:

    The Lloyd family,
I was deeply saddened by the news of Mr. Lloyd passing. Back over 30 years ago, I used to mow Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd’s lawn while in high school. I will never forget him making me pick up all the sticks before mowing! I also learned much about wood working and tool safety and respect. They both were always happy and fun to be around. All wonderful memories. My deepest sympathies to your family.

  3. Rich and Sue Barber says:

Peter, Scot and your families – we are saddened that your Mom and Dad were taken so soon. They are wonderful people. Dave and I communicated frequently through the years and I will miss his humor and his thoughtfulness.
We can rejoice that they are together again.
Praying for you during this difficult time.
