Travis L. Kirby (Sign Guestbook)

Travis Logan Kirby, of Knoxville, was a brilliant, devoted and loving son whose life ended far too soon on December 23, 2017, just 2 days short of his 35th birthday. Travis loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and sharing those pursuits with his closest friends, and while he really enjoyed the beach, nowhere was more special to him than his Tennessee Mountains. Travis loved all things Irish, and his most cherished experience was the trip he and his mother made to Ireland to explore his Irish heritage. A graduate of Bearden High, he achieved national ranking in Science Olympiad and many other honors, including being a National Merit Scholar and Presidential Scholar. Travis then graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Business Management and a Collateral in International Finance. All who knew Travis described him as a loyal friend with a good and kind heart, fantastic wit and a ready smile. He made friends wherever he went.

Travis was preceded in death by his beloved sister Taylor Blair Kirby, and adored and adoring grandparents, Sarah and Arthur W Kirby. He will be deeply missed and is survived by his mother Carolyn Kirby of Knoxville, and his extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, best friend Matt, and even his pets, all of whom he loved dearly. His family was the most important thing in his life.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 30th from 2-3pm at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel with a Memorial Service to follow conducted by Rev. Tim Addis, pastor of Friendship Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Travis’ name to “Friends of the Smokies,” as the Smoky Mountains were his favorite place and where he will rest. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Kirby family and invites you to view and sign their online guestbook at gentrygriffey.com.

Carolyn i will always cherish the many memories and times I had with Travis. His quick wit, his laughter. The fires he would build for us while we would cajole him when really he was the master at building a fire for us to enjoy! I loved how he would make fun of me for watching my hallmark movies but would sit with me and kinda pay attention. I loved listening to him and Lisa and their intelligent debates on everything and so much more. I will miss him so very much. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know i am here for you. I love you. Becky Mariles

  11. Rebecca Starrett says:

We met during training at Travelers, and you were instantly one of my favorite coworkers. You had such a dark, quick sense of humor, and were friendly to everyone there. When tragedy struck your life, you were a model of how to keep going on, and showed me that it’s ok to put your own health and sanity before a job. I honestly think that seeing how you put yourself first helped spur me into getting healthier.

I remember on the first payday of training, we went to lunch with a couple other coworkers for sushi, and you and I joked about grabbing a beer while on lunch as our drink if no one would tell on us.

  12. Brenda Strevel says:
