Rebecca Addington (Sign Guestbook)

Rebecca “Mimi”  Whedbee  Addington – age 79, of Powell, passed away December 16, 2017 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a lifelong member of Emerald Avenue United Methodist Church but recently attended Fountain City United Methodist Church, where her brother had served as pastor. At Emerald Avenue she worked in the nursery, served several years as financial secretary, and was instrumental in the development of the Emerald Youth Foundation. Becky graduated from Fulton High School in 1956 and attended the University of Tennessee. In her later years, she ran her own successful online business. Her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mary Whedbee; husband, Tom; son, Jim; grandchildren Anna James and John Thomas Addington; and great nephew, Bradley Gattis. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Dunsmore, and husband, Todd; daughter-in-law, Laura Addington; grandchildren, Alden and Mary Chandler Addington, Jacob, Luke, and Megan Dunsmore; brother, Jim Whedbee, and wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Wanda Johnson; special friend of 47 years, Marty Rodgers; and several nieces and nephews. The family expresses deep appreciation to friend and caregiver, Sandy Atwater. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 19th from 4-6pm at Fountain City UMC followed by her memorial service at 6pm, officiated by Reverends Randy Frye, Tom Seay, and Mr. Steve Diggs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emerald Youth Foundation, 1718 N. Central Street, Knoxville 37917.     I have such special memories of Becky, from childhood when I was more of a “squirt and a pest” than anything, and then as a precious, giving, and selfless friend. I miss her and will always treasure her friendship and memory.
